Scrabboonit Begins

Hi! This is a blog about books. I wanted a place to keep track of what I'm reading and to make recommendations to others about good reads in both adult's and children's literature. As a bonus, I'll also throw in some posts about book-based movies and TV! I'd also enjoy hearing what YOU are reading. Happy reading!

  1. Bonjour Jeannette,
I always think it's interesting to see what your friends are reading..anyway at the moment I'm reading in French "the Lost" by Daniel Mendelsohn, story of the search by a young jew for tracks about 6 members of his family who lived in Poland and were killed by Nazis during WWII. interesting, full of emotions and sad memories, a bit hard to read ...and just before that I finished a book by Isabel Allende who remains one of my favourite South American author...there you go for my reading taste.. au revoir , marie-anne
ps: I think we both like Bill Bryson..

  2. Marie-Anne, "The Lost" sounds quite interesting. I know what you mean about some books being hard to read because of the things they describe or the intensity of the emotions they provoke. I once began reading Patricia Cornwell's "Kay Scarpetta" series but had to give it up when I realized that there would be lots of instances of children (and adults) who were brutally killed. I have never read anything by Isabel Allende but I have wanted to--what would you recommend I start with by her? Thanks for reading my blog!

  3. Isabel Allende... I would highly recommend the "House of the Spirits", hard to read too but fascinating about Chile!, "Paula" is also interesting but heart-breaking (it's a book written at the bedside of her dying daugther in coma) , there is also "Eva Luna" and "the stories of Eva Luna"... and also "Aphrodite" which is a cooking book for "aphrodite meals", I've never ever tried any recipe but it's fun....I read all her books in English and loved her style from the start (house of the spirits - I think they made a film out of it with Antonio Banderas and his wife) the film is nothing compared to the book which I sometimes read over and over....which is a good sign for me!
"The lost" I was reading it last night in bed and had to stop as it was becoming too hard with atrocities commited by nazis..; this one will be hard to finish I can tell ...
if you start reading I. Allende tell me what you think of her...cheers
